Primary Purpose
Perform laboratory and x-ray duties under the direction of Center Manager/physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, documenting medical records and understanding billing, and coding for insurance purposes as related to digital x-ray and lab.
Clinical duties may also include taking and recording vital signs recording medical histories, preparing patients for examination and drawing blood.
Essential Job Functions
- Completion of basic x-ray as ordered by provider using digital x-ray and electronic medical record systems
- Completion of lab duties as ordered by providers or following standing order protocols
- Adherence to OSHA Blood Borne exposure guidelines, universal precautions and compliance with other policies and safeguards in the administration of x-ray or lab
- Maintenance of HIPPA protections and ensuring an environment that protects the confidentiality of patient personal health information in the lab, x- ray suite and in the general health center
- Communicates systematically with providers, lab vendors, and radiologist to ensure timely and efficient administration and results for lab and x-ray
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly quality control tests and develop reports documenting continuous quality improvement activities to the Medical Director
- Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in electronic medical records
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician
- Explain treatment procedures, medications diets and physicians’ instructions to patients
- Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Current Florida X-ray technician certification
- Experience completing lab procedures to include competence in routine and complex blood drawing procedures
- Experience with computerized and digital technologies
- Knowledge of handling administrative tasks and the information and techniques needed to assist a provider to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities
- Ability to orally communicate effectively, with others, with or without the use of an interpreter
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services
- Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature
Physical Requirements
- Ability to endure short, intermittent, and/or long periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties
- Transport him/herself to other departments, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off- site locations to accomplish job responsibilities, attend meetings, workshops, seminars,
- Accomplish job duties using various 1ypes of equipment/supplies, g. pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboard, telephone, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant program
- Current Florida certification as an x-ray
- Ability to interact and work with diverse populations
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous experience in a patient care setting
- Knowledge of universal precautions and exposure prevention standards
